Showcasing 3 Engagements
The Original People of Turtle Island: Pre-contact
Welcome to an audio-visual experience that teaches Indigenous ways of living. Prior to the arrival of the European people, we were the healthiest people on earth. Our unique cultures, languages and histories flourished across the land. Guided by an Indigenous medicine person, this teaching takes us on an Indigenous story-telling journey. Indigenous medicines such as sage or sweetgrass will be lit to cleanse the environment and invoke spirit. The presentation content will focus on pre-contact times on Turtle Island (aka North America). We will reserve the final 30mins for an open question and answer period. As with all our teaching engagements, we will begin with a creation story.
The Nature of Our Humanity: 1492-1700
With a brief audio/visual presentation on connecting to spirit, we offer an Indigenous perspective on the first two hundred years of engagement. After first contact with European explorers in 1492, the following two hundred years would see a period of sharing and cooperation followed by sickness and death. While European explorers arrived by the millions, they were often sick and hungry. The Indigenous people shared food, medicines, furs and shelter. The new arrivals shared inventions of steel tools and weapons. In this presentation we take share an Indigenous perspective on resiliency and spirituality.
The Horrors of A Colonized Past: 1700-1900
In this audio/visual presentation we explore the treaty relationships that Indigenous Nations had with Britain and America. In the height of war and exploration, relationships were built and destroyed and built again. As peace came and went, so too did treaties with Indigenous Nations. Indigenous treaties enabled the British and American Colonies to establish military forts and fur trading posts across the land. Surveys grew into townships, which grew into cities, which grew into government led countries. After constitutions were established; railways, boarding schools and reservations followed. The history of the Indigenous people of Turtle Island/North America is deeper than a two-hundred year period, however, the impacts of this period would dictate a century of poverty, addictions and suicides.
THE NEXT SEVEN GENERATIONS
Building relationships with a solid base of self-worth and self-care. Taking care of self can help you take care of others. Our teachings are rooted in spirituality. As Indigenous medicine people, healers and teachers, we offer a perspective on spirituality that is rooted in tradition, ceremonies and medicines. We learn from elders, teachers, Mother Earth and life’s many experiences. Join us for a journey down a spiritual path that will lead us to our future.
CELEBRATING THE SPIRIT IS AN INDIGENOUS WAY OF LIFE
We are family based and community driven. We are independent, Indigenous and we aim to inspire. As Indigenous medicine people we practice a sacred way of living so that we can teach a sacred way of being.
